Therapy in English in Meppel & Online

Are you looking for an English-speaking therapist in Meppel who works not only through talking, but also with emotions and the body?

I offer body-oriented and experiential psychotherapy in English for adults. Sessions can take place at my practice in Meppel and, where appropriate, online.

Body-oriented psychotherapy in English

Sometimes you understand very well what is happening and may even know where certain feelings or patterns come from. Yet understanding alone doesn't always change how you feel or react.

In my work, we therefore involve both mind and body.

We talk about what is happening in your life, but we also slow down and pay attention to what you experience in the present moment. What do you feel? What happens in your body? Where do you notice tension, and what changes when you stay with an experience for a little longer?

By becoming more aware of these signals, you can learn to recognise your feelings, needs, boundaries and automatic responses more clearly.

What can I help you with?

You can come to me with a wide range of issues, including:

  • stress, overwhelm and burnout;
  • anxiety and panic;
  • trauma and developmental trauma;
  • difficult or overwhelming experiences;
  • low mood and depressive feelings;

  • insecurity and low self-esteem;
  • loneliness;
  • feeling overstimulated;
  • difficulty setting boundaries;
  • psychosomatic complaints;

  • grief and loss;
  • relationship difficulties;
  • attachment and relationship patterns;
  • personal development;
  • questions about meaning and direction in life.

You don't need to have a clearly defined problem before starting therapy. You may simply feel that something isn't right, that you keep getting stuck in the same patterns or that you would like to feel more connected to yourself.

Trauma therapy and EMDR

I also offer trauma therapy and EMDR.

Trauma is not always the result of one clearly identifiable event. Sometimes it relates to an accident, operation, loss or another overwhelming experience. In other situations, experiences during childhood have shaped how safe you feel, how you relate to other people or how your body responds to stress.

In trauma therapy, we pay attention not only to what happened, but also to the responses of your body and nervous system.

Depending on what you need, I can use EMDR as well as different forms of body-oriented trauma work. We work at a pace that is manageable for you, with attention to safety, resources and self-regulation.

An experiential and integrative approach

Every person is different, and sessions do not always look the same.

Sometimes we mainly talk and explore. At other times we may work more experientially, using body-oriented exercises, mindfulness, movement, inner-child work, attachment and boundary exercises or constellation work.

My trauma-informed work also draws on approaches such as NARM (NeuroAffective Relational Model), Somatic Experiencing and polyvagal theory.

We mainly work with what is happening in the here and now, while making space for experiences from the past when they are relevant to what you are experiencing today.

Therapy in Meppel and online

I also offer online sessions. Online, we can work very well on recognising and regulating emotions, stress and bodily responses.

At the same time, I value meeting in person. Where possible, I prefer to meet you face-to-face for the first session and/or regularly during the therapeutic process.

We can discuss together what is practical and therapeutically appropriate for you. This may mean meeting mainly at my practice in Meppel, combining face-to-face and online sessions, or working online when distance or circumstances make this the better option.

Finding more freedom in how you live

Therapy is not only about reducing symptoms. It can also be an opportunity to understand yourself better and become more aware of what you feel, what you need and what matters to you.

Old patterns may once have been helpful or necessary, but that doesn't mean they still have to determine how you live today.

With warmth, calmness and attention, I am happy to walk alongside you for a while as you explore what you need to feel more connected to yourself and to live with greater freedom.
